In 2003 the First Step program was launched to meet the needs of expectant women and families and ensure that all young children have the material items necessary for a healthy lifestyle. The First Step Program provides quality pregnancy and family spport programming, case management, and support services for individuals facing an unplanned pregnancy and families with children ages 0-3. Core services provided by First Step include:
- Case Management - coordination of social services, assistance with management of the challenges of daily living, and promoting the overall health and safety of the client and family
- Emergency Assistance - material and financial assistance for persons in need of food, formula, diapers, shelter, clothing, transportation, utility payments and other services essential to a client/families' well-being
The First Step Program supports the pro-life, pro-family position of the Catholic Church through service and advocacy on behalf of women and families facing difficult life situations. It is designed to provide help in addressing the health and social concerns of parents and instilling hope in building a secure future for their family.
Last year, 421 households participated in this program for a total of 1,017 people. Of the participants, 260 low-income pregnancy women and families received material assistance and/or case management services through the First Step program. |
